Ontario Premier Doug Ford says new COVID-19 restrictions are likely coming for the province’s three most populous regions.
Ford says the numbers in Toronto and Peel and York are „extremely, extremely concerning” and that those three regions are „staring down the barrel of another lockdown.” New measures for those regions could be announced on Friday, Ford said. Toronto Mayor John Tory agreed with the premier’s assessment at a separate news conference and said the city’s medical officer of health has made new recommendations for restrictions to the province. Ontario on Wednesday reported 1,417 new cases of COVID-19, including 463 in Peel, 410 in Toronto and 178 in York. There were 32 more deaths linked to the illness, the most on any single day during this second wave of the pandemic in the province. The Conservative government also said it would not extend the winter break for elementary and public school students in the province because of „low levels of transmission and safety within our schools.” |
