The Covid- 19 or “Corona Viral Disease” is not only globally spread out as a Pandemic but also the greatest disaster on many levels and factors. The numbers, statistics on morbidity and mortality looks more and more like the rising and falling in Top charts with number one countries, winners and losers. Death units are added, subtracted, hidden or disappear in smoke, artificial smoke. But these statistics are not only about body sacks but also about persons, personalities with a life, with their life stories and families, lovers and mistresses, everybody bag has a mother, father, wife, kids, family, friends. And grief is not allowed in bio statistics, too sentimental.
But the indirect and induced costs of this global disaster is of course jobs, jobs, jobs but also livelihood, shattered dreams and a loss in cash flow for many families.
In focusing on the livelihood of poor and less poor families in Africa, Latin America and other continents shows the wide and the depth of the C19 disaster. Livelihood for a lot of extended families is the “informal economy”, the markets for staple food, odd jobs, labor migration, shelter in small houses, dire WASP conditions.
This is the real social economical disaster, adding to the exponential growth in body bags. This livelihood problems are be trapped again in many statistics and scientific articles. A lot of do-gooders appear on site, the AID community, the technical assistance, the humanitarian nexus, all will be back in no time, and monies are given under strict Western conditions.
While the little progress in life made by the have-nots is gone in a fraction of their lives.
And then we ask “resilience” to cope with the Covid- 19 Disaster, tomorrow will be better like after every earthquake or a tsunami. But will it be better globally, continentally?
